As can be evidenced in my work, I am inspired by a lifelong fascination with the social dance of everyday life that displays the depth and verisimilitude of the human spirit. My work attempts to move seemingly ordinary subject matter into the extraordinary and reflects my vision of the spiritual need people have for one another.
I was raised by my mother in a single-parent family where self-discipline, hard work, and compassion for others were character traits valued above all else. My compassion for others led me to a career path as a juvenile youth worker where I am daily thrust into the midst of emotional chaos and human support structures gone awry. Helping others learn how to accept help while helping themselves is a major theme of my life work as well as my art. It is sometimes difficult to tell where one starts and another ends.
My need to create art is intertwined with the challenge of fatherhood. The unconditional love that I feel for my own family fuels the patience and freedom necessary to portray the human condition with a freshness and strength that marks the distinctiveness of my work.
